We live in a world plagued with selfishness, and it starts early , as early as kindergarten, where we refuse to lend others our extra pencils and throw tantrums when they get lost, claiming our parents bought them overseas. Yho guys! Kids and lies! In primary and high school it grows into how we handle friendships and relationships, and by the time we reach university or college, we can’t even share a meal with a hungry student , we eat in hiding.
We enter the workplace, where selfishness reaches level 100, with people backstabbing coworkers just to take their positions or gain favour with the boss. Eventually, we become selfish husbands and wives who cannot allow opinions or differing perspectives, and later selfish parents who raise selfish children and the cycle continues. Today’s topic is Helping Others to Occupy. My friend and l have been doing a study on the Old Testament and so this topic came from that study. Let’s read scrizha
Deuteronomy 3:18–20 (Easy to Read Version)
Moses said, “The Lord your God has given you this land to live in. But all your strong men must cross the Jordan River and help the other Israelites. You must help your brothers until the Lord gives them rest, just as He has given you rest. When they also receive the land the Lord promised them, then you may return to your homes that were given to you.”
Now if you have read about the journey of the Israelites, you know it was a journey to occupy. Just a side note there, there is a process behind occupying. When they got to a certain place the tribes of Gad and Rueben decided to stay there. The tribes of Reuben and Gad had many animals. When they saw the land of Jazer and Gilead, they noticed that it was good for raising livestock. So they went to Moses and the leaders of Israel and said, “This land is good for our animals. Please let us stay here and do not make us cross the Jordan River.” That is Numbers 32.
Later on, we meet these same people again and Moses says to them, yes, you may have the land you asked for, but you will only occupy it after you have helped your brothers; you must help them until they also find rest. Yet in this selfish world we live in, once people occupy, they don’t just refuse to help , they gatekeep. After COVID, when many people were moving overseas, some began hiding opportunities from others, and I kept asking myself, why? And I’m sorry to call out our race, but it is true , as Black people, we often struggle with helping one another to have what we have or even more.
It is almost as if some people find comfort in watching others remain stuck, as though another person’s advancement threatens their own. People will tell you “mysteries” about how they occupied , SMOOTH LIES, making it sound so complex and unreachable. Sometime in 2025, a lady from Ghana sent me a DM asking how to become a counsellor; I had never met her before, we only spoke for two days, but I gave her every link and shared everything I did because she said she wanted to build her career, and why should I stop her? We have never spoken again, but I was glad she could also find her gap. This is what it means to help people occupy .
If you get job opportunities, help people, if you are in a position where you can lift someone, help them. You already have your land, yes now help others. What will it steal from you to share a job link with someone? What will it take from you to say, “I actually know someone who knows someone who can help you do ABC”? Where will you break if you cross over the Jordan and help your brothers fight until they possess Canaan, then return to your land?
Help someone occupy through prayer, when will you start interceding for others? Every time you are the one asking for prayer, when will you text those who are always praying for you and ask, “How can I help you occupy through prayer?” This year, we must kill selfishness. Hardened hearts that do not even flinch when they see someone in pain, despite knowing exactly what to do , all that must stop.
I want to continue this topic tomorrow because we need to go a bit deeper, to actually look at the practical ways we can help each other to occupy. This year? We will occupy, my people. We will not just step into our land, we will lift others to theirs. Get ready, because tomorrow we’re going to get very practical about how to do it, step by step.
Now, if you read my blogs but have never met this Wonderful Jesus that I’m always writing about, you’d love to get to know Him, Or you know The Lord but have found yourself drifting far from Him, I would love to talk with you. Please send me an email on yieldedcwcenter@gmail.com or simply comment, and I will reach out to you.
I love yous.
