Dealing with depression

Even the bitterest fruit has sugar in it.

– Terry a O’Neal

Some years ago l was depressed. I thought of death more than you think of knocking off during working hours. I was suicidal,  I considered  the many ways to end my life. It was such a dark place that I started going for counselling. On the first day my therapist said to me “You speak, sit and behave like someone who has been there for herself for a long time and not even tried to allow yourself to be helped” that was so true. I never learned how to share my burdens and so the devil capitalised on that , making sure the yoke is so heavy that it affects my mind.

Theory and research on depression have shown that it is a chronic illness meaning the effects of depression can be long-lasting or recurrent and can dramatically affect a person’s ability to function and live a rewarding life. The medication given to you is to sort of “manage it”. Depression and anxiety never answers to medication. What destroys depression is “words” and not words of a therapist saying “breathe in and out”. No. The word of God.

Many have gone to therapists Including myself and come out with depression after spending monies for the sessions. Im sorry but the truth is, they don’t have the answer. They have psycho management skills. They truly help you to manage the emotional breakdowns and all , thank God for their profession many are still alive because of a decision to visit them however, the word of God is a free tool that works on the renewal of your mind. Your actions depend on your mind. People commit suicide because the mind suggested a way out . It all starts with a thought and the thought triggers feelings. You usually start crying when your mind takes you back to memories of pain.

I am living proof that depression is not chronic to a believer in Christ Jesus. The word of God melts it like it never existed. The word has the answer , the word is the medication to a troubled mind not sad songs or a yoga session . The mind is a dangerous thing to play with. You take away a man’s mind you have taken away his life. So if we allow the devil to play in our minds, we will never live a fruitful life. Keep showing up here , we will learn how to yield our minds to Holy Spirit. There is a way out family. I love you, God loves you! 💞

”Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.“Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭TPT‬‬

This is such a powerful and necessary read! Thank you for sharing your story and advising us to yield our minds to Christ and fill them with His word.

Shuuu. How real is depression but knowing that the Word of God is more real and alive than depression is what gives me relief. I also suffered from depression in the past 2 years, went to therapists but instead found myself drinking and thinking I can take away the pain because it was hard going in that therapy room and coming out with more questions than answers. But then Jesus found me, He saved me and gave me grace everlasting and I stand as a testimony of His goodness and restoration today.

“Coming out with more questions than answers “ thank you for sharing your story. I think many people will be able to relate to it because many tend to “cope” by drinking alcohol . God is our deliverer!!

Wow this is so refreshing. You are spot on! So true, Prov 4:22; highlighting the last part “…for they are life to those that find them and health to all their flesh.”

What a powerful piece on dealing with depression!!!Depression is real and no denying and truly only the word of God is able to melt it like it never existed before 👏👏 I myself went through depression and I attempted to end my life so many times I was drowning nothing said to me made sense, I went through the worst at a very young age but I thank God for his love his word truly made an impact in my life and here I am!!
