Hunger

Hunger is the physical sensation of needing food, often caused by an empty stomach and a drop in blood sugar levels. It is the body’s way of signalling that it requires nourishment to function properly.

I get hungry at the most ridiculous times like 2 a.m or 6 a.m. And when hunger strikes, it doesn’t come quietly it brings a headache, mood swings, and a personal attack on my patience. Let’s be honest, nobody likes being hungry. That’s why fasting is a struggle. We want the spiritual growth, but a 21-day fast? Now that’s a whole survival challenge. The entire day becomes a game of “how much longer?” By 17:57, you’re already hovering in the kitchen like an undercover agent, you open the fridge 30 times 😂 You check the time so often, something you never do. And let’s not forget the ones who fantasise in extreme detail about the meal you’ll destroy at sundown. Hunger is just desire on hold, a desire unfulfilled. Let’s talk about spiritual hunger.

I’ve come to realise that it’s not that God has given everything He has and now has nothing left to pour no, that’s not the case at all. The issue is that there are no more empty jars to receive the oil. Think about it if a jar is already full, why would you keep pouring? That would just be a waste, right? The truth is, many people are full but not with what they should be. Full of themselves, full of pride, full of bitterness. And then they lift their hands, singing, “Fill me up, God.” How? Explain the science. You’re asking for a refill when you’re already at capacity! Where is God supposed to pour? Our hunger is already satisfied—just not by Him. And until we empty ourselves, there will be no room for more.

Complete this verse ..

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they ____________”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If you don’t know it, eh let me remind you. The Word says you’re blessed when you hunger and thirst for righteousness because only then will you be filled. That means the key to being filled isn’t just asking, it’s hunger.

Now, while there’s a limit to how much food your physical stomach can handle at a time, there are no limits in God. The only limit is you the size of your spiritual belly. So, the real question is: What’s occupying your spiritual tummy? Is it the Word? Or is it anger, offense, people’s opinions? Some of us are so desperate to be seen and validated by the world that we have spiritual ulcers all because we keep consuming junk and poison. And then we wonder why we’re weak, why we’re empty, why we can’t seem to be satisfied. The truth is, whatever you feed on is what will fill you. Read the last part again.

If all I eat is rice and chicken, there’s no way I’m going to vomit beef and pap. Why? Because that’s not what I consumed! That’s not what satisfied my hunger. If you say you want to represent God? Alright. But if your spiritual tummy were to be X-rayed, or if you had to vomit spiritually right now, what would come out? What have you been feeding on? The fruit from the center of the garden? Gossip? Pride? Selfish ambition?

Here’s the thing if you’re truly hungry for God, there’s no way you won’t chase after Him. It’s just like when you’re fasting. You keep walking into the kitchen, opening the fridge, staring at the food you can’t eat, hoping time will move faster. Why? Because you know where your hunger will be satisfied. That’s the same way you should wait in God’s presence because you know that’s where your desire will be met. But you claim to have spiritual hunger, and you’re nowhere near His presence? What kind of fake hunger is that?

If you hunger and thirst for sin, guess what? You’ll be filled. Either way, your hunger will be satisfied. The question is , what are you eating? We all know there’s food that’s bad for the stomach, and spiritually, sin is that food.

How much of God you get depends on how much of Him you want. Look at Moses he spent 40 days on Mount Sinai, eating and drinking nothing! And yes, I know you just opened your mouth in shock because you leave church early after two hours because you’re “so hungry.” But Moses? He was feeding on something greater the presence of God.

HUNGER, people of God! H-U-N-G-E-R! A desire! A longing! 40 days! What was he living on? The presence! And let me tell you , you will never grow beyond your diet. Some of us are spiritually weak, malnourished, and barely surviving because we simply don’t eat well. If your spiritual health report were printed right now, even you wouldn’t believe the results! Kwashiorkor!

Listen! Are you thirsty for more? Come to the refreshing waters and drink. Even if you have no money, come, buy, and eat. Yes, come and buy all the wine and milk you desire— it won’t cost a thing.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭1‬ ‭TPT‬‬

It’s even free. And we all know that people like free food! So what’s our prayer today?

Father, I come before You today with a deep desire for more of You. Lord, give me a hunger for You that cannot be quenched by anything else. Let me drink from Your living waters, and may my soul never thirst again. I pray that my hunger be channeled in the right direction, that I may not be like Esau, seeking fulfillment in the wrong places.Lord, I acknowledge that I am not satisfied with where I am spiritually. I know I am not growing because I am not eating the right things. When I do eat, I have often consumed things that are harmful to my spirit, things that are destroying me. But today, I make a decision to hunger and thirst for righteousness.Father, fill me up with Your presence! Nourish my soul, renew my mind, and make me more like You. I long for Your Word, I long for Your Spirit, and I long to grow deeper in You. Thank You for filling me, Lord, and for satisfying my deepest desires. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“You never grow beyond your diet” 😮‍💨 although it slapped, it will never be my reality! I will eat well and fill my spiritual body with the correct nutrients that align with my destiny’s needs. Lord, I am hungry for you! I am running to you, not walking.

May God intensify my hunger for him and may soul and spirit yearn for a deeper connection with him. i refuse to settle for spiritual malnutritition
