The requirements

Have you ever been rejected for a job because you didn’t meet the requirements? Once? Twice? Many times? Well… many times for me. Me? I can even apply for a president’s position. I don’t care, I will just apply. If l tell you the things I have applied for that I didn’t qualify for even by 40% , you will hire a jumping castle for me on my birthday to celebrate my boldness.

Anyways, aside from faith, the truth is that for most things on this earth, you must qualify to be given room. Statements like, ā€œGod qualifies the unqualified,ā€ are true, beautiful truths with plenty of biblical examples like David, Joseph, and many others BUT we must also bring balance to that truth by acknowledging that people like Daniel and his friends needed a certain level of qualification, and so did Ezra. I want us to understand that while grace can surely lift people with no impressive track record or exceptional skill, God does not completely ignore our qualifications.

This means that you my dear brother and sister must go back to school. Study. Learn a skill. Do something. You still need to qualify for many opportunities on this earth. They will say, ā€œUpload your CV.ā€ That’s not the time to pray in tongues, just upload the what? Exactly. I believe it’s the same with the season is transitioning into a new season. You must meet the requirements.

We’ve been talking about transition and the different journeys of life that take us from one place to another, sometimes as a team and sometimes alone. One thing I’ve realised about this season is that you must meet the requirements. If God is transitioning you to Swaziland or Australia, you already know you’ll need a passport, right? Otherwise, the work God has for you there won’t be done because you don’t meet the basic requirements for the airline to take you there.

In transition, you must meet the requirements of both the airline and your destination. If the UK says you need to take the IELTS to enter its job market, then guess what? You may have everything else, but they can still reject you for that one missing requirement. Sometimes the delay isn’t because God has said no it’s because there’s still a requirement you need to meet.

How can you be in transition to another country without a passport? Without a ticket? Without anything at all? It’s just you and your suitcase. How can you transition into marriage when you’ve never even read or listened to any material about marriage? How can you transition into becoming a mature believer when you have time to scroll on TikTok for three hours straight, know every trending sound, but somehow can’t find ten minutes to read the Word?

People always say, ā€œI couldn’t find the time.ā€ Really? You didn’t want to find the time. The requirements of transition are maturity. Are you still childish? Are you still being begged to pray? How then are you going to transition into becoming an impactful person when you’ve spent the last seven months trying to finish just one book? Someone asked me how many books I’ve read this year. By God’s grace, I’ve read a good 11, and they’re all on different topics that enlighten my gray areas finances, leadership, marriage, motherhood, psychology, and more because I’m trying to mature into the version of me that can carry what’s coming.

For some of us, the requirement is simply to stop being so controlling. You want to tell the pilot how to land because you watched it in a movie once. Relax, Captain from Temu. The requirement might just be to keep quiet for a minute. You have an opinion on everything even on how God should be God. Everyone is wrong except you. You never see your own wrongs. It could be pride. Sometimes we’ve performed humility so well that we’ve convinced ourselves we’re humble. Bowing your head when you walk and doing all that drama.

The requirement could even be changing how you dress. Who travels across the city in a swimming costume and heels? Nobody. Why? Because even transition has a dress code. Maybe your requirement is surrender, letting God do what He wants without giving Him advice. Maybe it’s fasting, but every Kairos moment arrives and somehow you’re ā€œjust having a small snack.ā€ Have you actually asked God what the requirements are for your journey? There are requirements for the Levites, for those who were serving God in the temple. I’m saying to you grace is sufficient but some doors you go through qualifications.

Remember, we’re all carrying different assignments, so we’ll all have different requirements. A chef doesn’t need to carry a gun, and a soldier doesn’t need a recipe book. Yet some of us are holding onto things that don’t belong to our destiny. If you don’t meet the requirements, even Esther had to go through the beauty treatments, the king wouldn’t have looked her way but Rebekah didn’t need all that. Requirements are unique to your destiny. Selah.
