The cave of Adullam
Good morning! 🌝
It’s Worship Wednesday!
I’ve been meditating on the story of the men of Adullam from 1 Samuel 22:1-2:
“David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. So when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him. And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him.”
And I keep wondering—What kind of conversations took place in that cave? What prayers were prayed? How did a group of weak, discouraged, and discontented men leave that place as warriors? Was Adullam just a hiding place from Saul, or was it a place of divine encounter?
David was a man of the secret place, he wrote about it in Psalm 91. He poured out his heart through psalms and songs filled with deep, intimate meaning. In Adullam, he must have taught these men the way into the secret place, and as they followed, they were transformed.
What kind of place is this? A place where you enter broken, broke, and burned out but emerge as a warrior, strong and confident. This is the power of the secret place! One of the ways we access it is through worship—genuine, heartfelt praise.
Your Adullam may not be a cave, but it can be your room, where you shut yourself in and engage with the Spirit.
Worship Wednesday isn’t just a routine, it’s an intentional pursuit of God. Like the men of David, we press in so that weakness turns into strength, fear into boldness, and brokenness into victory.
We continue yielding. 🌸
Let’s go! 🚀
