Nothing changes until you change

Happy New Month, people of God.

I hope we are all excited and expectant for the things God will do in this month of June. Many people are starting to feel discouraged because they have not achieved certain things they hoped for. Some are looking at their goals and saying, “I thought by now I would have done A, B, and C.”

And honestly, it is okay to feel that way. But we also need to have honest conversations with ourselves. While some people are truly waiting on God, others are the reason things have not changed in their lives. Not every delay is spiritual. Sometimes it is inconsistency, fear, procrastination, lack of discipline, or failure to act. There is no pity party. There is no candy to hand out for excuses. Let’s talk about that a little.

Let’s use an example metaphorically. Imagine there is a young person praying and trusting God for a big opportunity. And while that person is waiting, God tells them, “Study this course. Learn this skill. Prepare yourself in this area because this is where I am going to lift you.” The young person starts the course excited, but somewhere along the way, they lose discipline. They start skipping classes. They stop taking it seriously. Instead of studying, they spend hours on social media, TikTok, entertainment, and everything else except the very thing God instructed them to focus on. A year or two passes.

Then one day, God finally sends a destiny helper. Someone comes and says, “I heard you studied in this field. I would love for you to join my company. Send me your certificate so we can proceed.”And the young person says, “Um… I actually started the course, but I never finished.” Then the opportunity passes to someone else. After that, the same young person goes back to God frustrated

“Lord, I’ve been fasting.”
“Lord, I’ve been praying.”
“Lord, I’ve been faithful in church.”
“Why are things not working?” And they weep all day and night until they are pink in the face.

Meanwhile, heaven can clearly see that it was not a spiritual attack. It was a lack of preparation. Opportunity came. A destiny helper came.
But the opportunity did not meet a prepared person. Sometimes we turn things into spiritual warfare when in reality it is poor stewardship, inconsistency, laziness, or lack of discipline. When you were supposed to study, you did not.
When you were supposed to build your portfolio, you delayed. When you were supposed to create your CV, you procrastinated. Now the application closes in five minutes, and suddenly that is when you rush to Canva or one other app.

Preparation matters. Like I said before, there is no candy for laziness. I’ve been seeing many posts saying, “We are already in the second half of the year,” but technically we are not there yet. The second half begins after June. But anyway, seeing those posts made me think about something important. Before we even address the anxiety of not achieving goals my first question is,
What did you do with the first five months?

And this question is for all of us, including me. Because even as I write this, there are things I know I was supposed to have done by now. Do you realise that for some people, the vision board will become the same vision board next year? We can do 21 days of fasting at the beginning of the year.We can enter the year with fire, motivation, declarations, and excitement. But halfway through the year, we are still the same people, with the same habits, the same inconsistency, and the same excuses.

There’s a saying that goes:
“Nothing changes until you change.”I have found that to be very true. At some point, you have to face yourself and face the truth.

“Oh, my spiritual life is not growing.”
But God has been telling you to pray.

“Oh, I know God called me to do this”
But someone who heard the same call yesterday has already started moving.

When I started doing the school projects, many people came to me saying, “God told me to do this too.” And my response is this, If you truly understood the level of pain, confusion, and struggles those students are facing in classrooms every day, you would have started the moment God told you to. Even I cannot carry the burden of these school projects alone. That is one of the reasons I started Link Up Africa to raise more people who are willing to respond to these problems.

When God tells you to do something, there is always a reason. Do you think God speaks randomly?Do you think He gives assignments “just because”? Nothing in the Bible happened without purpose. There’s a reason Ruth went to Bethlehem with Naomi. There’s a reason Mordecai had a niece called Esther. There’s a reason David was in the field before the palace. There’s always a reason why. So when God tells you to do something, do it.

God already knows that by June, some people will begin crying, praying, and asking why things are not working, while ignoring the instructions they were given months ago. Many times (not all the time), but many times when things are not working, it is because we did not do the work. Maybe we need to go back to those vision boards. Maybe we need to pause the crowd, the noise, and the endless group projects, and go back to ourselves as individuals. Ask yourself, How far do I actually want to go? Where do I want to go? Who am I becoming? Because sometimes we gather too many people around a vision, and the truth is, nobody is moving. Everyone is talking, planning, discussing, strategizing, but nothing is actually happening.

One thing about me is this: if I start something and invite people into it, the moment I realise there is no seriousness, urgency, or consistency, I will continue without them. I do not mean that emotionally or bitterly. I just understand that progress cannot wait forever for people who are undecided. If we said we are building something together and you keep dragging your feet, I am not going to bury the vision because of that. I will continue alone if I have to. You will catch up later o!

Some of you are delaying your own destiny because you are too attached to moving as a group. You wanted to start a business with six friends, but nobody is pushing except you. Go do it alone. You wanted to write the book together, but everyone keeps postponing meetings. Write it alone. There are no sentiments when it comes to purpose and progress.

Maybe that is one thing many people are afraid of doing things alone. I have realised that sometimes there is too much advice, too much planning, too much discussion, and too little movement. The whole year cannot be strategy meetings. Imagine if God delivered the children of Israel from Egypt, and every few steps they stopped again to “re-strategise.” Imagine moving for three days, then stopping for another week to discuss the route. Moving one day, then holding another conference about the journey. At some point, God would simply say, “Move already.”

Some of you already have enough advice. You already have enough wisdom. You already have enough confirmation. But you keep asking more people. One confirmation after another. One opinion after another. One prophetic word after another. And now you are confused because too many voices are speaking into something God already settled.

Is confirmation bad? No. Confirmation can bring clarity and peace. But some people have camped at the bus stop of confirmation for three years and still have not moved. At that point, it is no longer about confirmation. It becomes fear. It becomes procrastination. It becomes laziness disguised as spirituality.God called Samuel, and Samuel responded as a young man. He did not spend the next six months waiting for twenty more confirmations before obeying. Sometimes the things we fear doing the most are the very things God already told us to do. We are just afraid to move.

That is why some people enter a new year and leave it the exact same way. No growth. No movement. No evidence that they even responded to what God placed inside of them. And by the way, having a job or running a business does not automatically mean you are fully walking in purpose. There is more inside of you. There are gifts you have ignored, ideas you have postponed, talents you have buried, and assignments you keep delaying. Some people are productive in survival, but inactive in purpose. And God is still waiting for you to move. Anyways, e don cast. Happy new month. Do you best o.
